The capital of Netherlands, Amsterdam is known as " venice of the North", because of its beautiful waterways that criss cross the city, its impressive unique architecture and has more than 1500 bridges ! Declared a UNESCO SITE in 2010, a Canal Ring was dug in the 17th Century under the Golden Dutch Age to attract wealthy homeowners.

Today the Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein are the city's prime nightlife spots. And Jordaan, which was traditionally a working class area has gone upmarket with plenty of quaint art galleries, hip boutiques and happening cafes and restaurants.

my favorite place on planet Earth..

canals and bicycles....

The "Amsterdam" most visitors experience is the city center, the semi-circle with the Central station at its apex. There is something for every travellor's taste here, whether you prefer culture, art and history, serious partying or just absorb and enjoy the relaxing charm of a Medieval European city.

canals and white swans...  simply beautiful and serene
cycling or walking is the BEST way to get around the city...one may discover quaint little cute cafes and arty galleries round every corner. Every little lane has its own surprises, may it be a creative and artistic cafe, a personal museum or a "coffee shop" selling all types and styles of marijuana  and etc.... OR .....a lane showcasing rows of professional tax-paying prostitutes !

inside The Van Gogh Museum

along Damrak

and we stayed in DAM APARTMENT ( 2 bedrooms ensuite, with huge living area downstairs) right at the start of Damrak Road. 3 min to the Central Station and smack in the heart of Amsterdam. The Apartment is old but clean. booked through internet.
The only setback is the entrance ! It is almost impossible to find the little wooden door  (which has no sign ) and leads up in an extremely steep steps narrow and dark (at nights...must bring torch light )  and up 3 flights of super narrow stairs, out to a roof landing and onto the other building thru another narrow doorway and down to our floor ! By the time we reached the front door of our "home for next 3 nights " , we are completely LOST !! ....so if you are going to stay here, our strong advise is NO BIG HEAVY LUGGAGES.

Oh , also if you insists to stay here, just let you know that your direct neighbour is one of the biggest "coffee shop" in Amsterdam housing 4 floors of entertainment with full range of marijuana and etc from all over the world !

and so our kitchen window is always open and no wonder we always had good night sleep ! ha ha
